Your Smile Matters: Take a Step Toward Dental Wellness

Our comprehensive dental care approach goes beyond screenings, offering fluoride treatment, dental hygiene care packages, educational resources, and a commitment to connecting patients with ongoing dental care.

1. Basic Dental Screening and Flouride Treatment:

The patient is asked to set down bags, take off heavy coats, take things out of their pockets, take off hats, and remove their shoes.

2. Referral to Local Dental Clinics:

If further work is needed, they are referred to local dental clinics where the cost of their care would be waived or subsidized.

3. Dental Hygiene Care Packages for All Ages:

  • Aside from the actual screening, pre-dental students of the ICB at SJU hand out dental hygiene care packages for both adults and children.
  • The pediatric dental hygiene bag comes equipped with toothpaste, a brush, a one minute hourglass timer, a container for keeping lost teeth, and floss. The adult package is more basic and consists of toothpaste, a toothbrush, and floss.

4. Educational Outreach for Children:

Students at this station use informational pamphlets, coloring books, and puppets to educate children on how to properly brush their teeth and use the resources in the hygiene bag.

Bite Guards and Innovative Initiatives:

  • We recently received funding for bite guards, which are worn at night to protect from clenching the jaw and grinding teet.
  • A new initiative in conjunction with this station involves creating a database in which patients can access all available dental care practices in their area. This will include information like location, services offered at each site, and the cost or insurance requirements.
